On the Table – April 2nd through Easter Sunday, April 8th

Dear church,

Well, here we are.  Lent is drawing to a close.  The Kids Team started us off on our walk through Holy Week with an amazing All-Ages Palm Sunday service, and the Triduum – the Three Great Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter – are upon us.

This week, we gather with Jesus and his disciples for the Last Supper.  We remember Christ’s institution of the Eucharist, and of washing one another’s feet.  We sheepishly recall the New Commandment:  ”Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.”  And we suffer with Jesus through his agony in the garden, his abandonment by his friends, and his death on the cross on Good Friday.

And then, after sitting with the disciples through the bleak despair of Holy Saturday, we wake up Easter Sunday to the beginning of a world made new.

It’s quite a journey.  We’ll travel together in a couple ways:

First, join us on (Good) Friday evening for the final installment of our Lenten series of gatherings in Falls Church to discuss practices for spiritual formation. If you are interested, contact us!

Then,  at 10am on Sunday at Jammin’ Java, please join us as we celebrate the Resurrection together with our Easter Service!  This year’s service will be liturgical, with a Celtic flavor, and will include music, pageantry, and general celebration of the world made new!  Like our Palm Sunday service, it will also be kid friendly (though we’ll still offer nursery care for the littlest ones.)  Please join us for a festive, worshipful gathering!

May your week be holy and transforming, dear friends!

Peace,
Mike Croghan
