On the Table – October 1st through 7th…er…8th!

Hi church,

It’s a new month! And it’s, like, fall. I like fall. So let’s get together!

On Friday evening we will gather with our friends at the Lamb Center (Fairfax County’s only daytime drop-in center for homeless folks) for our monthly pizza and karaoke party. Bring your children (if any), your singing voice (if any) and your silly self (you know you have one). We’ll gather at 6 for setup, the singing starts at 6:30, and we’ll sing ‘Amazing Grace’ and finish up by 8.  Good times!

On Saturday, the Bill Murray Film Festival of Love will be taking a brief hiatus, since a lot of us are out of town for the holiday weekend. Mr. Murray shall return.

On Sunday morning, join us at 10am at Jammin’ Java for another All-Ages service in celebration of World Communion Sunday! We’ll look at how Christians have shared the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper throughout the world. Please join us for a kid- and adult-friendly gathering around a central rite of our community – the sharing of bread (etc.) and wine (for example) around the Common Table.

Also, this Sunday and next Sunday, we’ll be collecting food items for the Backpack Buddies program, supplementing the diets of low-income kids at a local school. The following items are needed:

BREAKFAST (oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, etc.)
LUNCH (cheese/peanut butter crackers, soup, ramen noodles, etc.)
DINNER (ravioli, canned tuna/chicken/ham, easy mac and cheese)
SNACKS (pretzels, applesauce, fruit cups, pudding, etc.)
MILK (shelf-stable milk boxes, Horizon, Organic Valley, Hershey’s, etc.)

If you can bring any of the above to donate, it will be much appreciated!

And on Monday, the mighty master of the Weber grill, Mike Stavlund (and his gracious wife Stacy and daughters Ella, Luci, and Mira) will be hosting a gathering at their place in Falls Church in the afternoon (for those with the day off) and early evening.  Many grills will be afire. Many meats and veggies will be cooked to perfection. YOU are welcome to partake – just give us a shout if you’re interested!

And that’s it for now. Be well, folks!

Mike Croghan
